La primera fase de esta estaci\u00f3n, el <a class=\"Enlace\" href=\"https:\/\/www.igme.es\/epvrf\/FonelasP1\/default.aspx\">Centro Paleontol\u00f3gico Fonelas P-1<\/a>, se construye en 2013 para salvaguardar el patrimonio paleontol\u00f3gico que alberga este yacimiento, as\u00ed como para facilitar las actividades de investigaci\u00f3n y divulgaci\u00f3n en Una ventana al origen del cuaternario<\/a><\/h6><p class=\"elementor-image-box-description\">El yacimiento de Fonelas P-1, enclavado a 2,5 kil\u00f3metros del municipio granadino que le da nombre, constituye hoy d\u00eda uno de los referentes paleontol\u00f3gicos en el Viejo Mundo sobre los grandes mam\u00edferos que vivieron en Europa hace 2 millones de a\u00f1os. Su excelente registro f\u00f3sil ha permitido aportar valiosa informaci\u00f3n sobre los ecosistemas del sur de la pen\u00ednsula Ib\u00e9rica, cuando nuestros antepasados abandonaron el continente africano para emprender un largo viaje hacia estas latitudes. Fauna Ib\u00e9rica hace 2 millones de a\u00f1os.<\/a><\/h6><p class=\"elementor-image-box-description\">El ecosistema registrado en el yacimiento de Fonelas P\u20101 pone de manifiesto la existencia de un \u201cpunto caliente\u201d de biodiversidad en la Cuenca de Guadix en el pasado, pudiendo haber estado constituido por unos 40.000\u201050.000 individuos entre carn\u00edvoros, herb\u00edvoros y omn\u00edvoros. Este yacimiento es el \u00fanico testimonio conservado de aquel maravilloso mundo natural, desaparecido hace 2 millones de a\u00f1os, en el que tambi\u00e9n habitaron las \u00faltimas tortugas class=\"elementor-image-box-content\"><p class=\"elementor-image-box-description\">El 30 de marzo de 2017 la Diputaci\u00f3n de Granada, el Grupo de Desarrollo Rural Altiplano de Granada, el Grupo de Desarrollo Rural de la Comarca de Guadix, el Consorcio de los Montes Orientales, y la Asociaci\u00f3n para la Promoci\u00f3n Econ\u00f3mica de los Montes Orientales, en colaboraci\u00f3n con el Instituto Geol\u00f3gico y Minero de Espa\u00f1a (Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovaci\u00f3n y Universidades), han presentado a la Comisi\u00f3n Espa\u00f1ola de Cooperaci\u00f3n con la Unesco, el proyecto \u201cGeoparque de Granada\u201d.\n<ul>\n<li>Se trata de la historia geol\u00f3gica de un r\u00edo y de un lago, y de la evoluci\u00f3n de los paisajes y las faunas del Cuaternario en el tiempo.<\/li>\n<li>El proyecto de Geoparque de Granada es aquel que por primera vez en este contexto se estructura y desarrolla en el \u00e1mbito de la historia de la Tierra y de la Vida durante los \u00faltimos 2 millones y medio de a\u00f1os, aportando de esta forma el \u00fanico geoparque de estas caracter\u00edsticas no s\u00f3lo a Espa\u00f1a, sino tambi\u00e9n a la Red Europea.<\/li>\n<li>Pero, asimismo, estos valles no s\u00f3lo cuentan historias del Cuaternario, sino tambi\u00e9n de la evoluci\u00f3n de los paisajes y de los ecosistemas por ellos soportados hasta tiempos tan lejanos como aquellos de hace 250 millones de a\u00f1os de antig\u00fcedad.<\/li>\n<li>Destaca el compromiso del territorio con su patrimonio natural (geol\u00f3gico), la voluntad de ponerlo en valor y de realizar un desarrollo sostenible en torno al mismo.<\/li>\n<li>Ser\u00eda el cuarto Geoparque de
